Old Wooden Desk

Over the last 12 months things have been getting out of hand around here.  I put this little wooden desk outside for just a little while when my daughter and her family moved in and it got left outside and become weathered and unloved.

So I decided this week that it was time for it to receive some TLC.  I decided to paint it grey.  I haven't had a proper studio over the past year or so and my craft bits are everywhere throughout the house so I have decided to take back over our formal lounge area and reclaim it as my studio.  I can't do very much each day so will just plod along as I can but I now have a little paper crafting corner all set up !  I love it so much !

So now my little desk feels loved again.

I decided to put it to good use last night and do a little textile painting with dye.  These little roses were white satin but are now painted, pearled and glittered.

And I worked on a painted lace piece which I will use on my name badge for my secret partner for the upcoming Lets Get Stitched weekend in Adelaide.

I hand painted some silk ribbon to match.  I hope my partner is going to like her new name badge.

So now that my front door area is missing the little wooden desk it needed something so I set about finding something to replace it. I spotted this old weathered cane chair at the local refuse shop.  It was $6.50 and very much unloved.  It's about to get a make over for it's new life, welcoming guest as they arrive at my door.

Hope you are having a great week.

Tiny Stool Make Over

Happy Monday to you all.

Each Monday morning I take my walking stick and go for a tiny stroll around the garden on the hunt for a lovely bunch of flowers to brighten up the kitchen for the week.  Here are today's blooms.

These roses continue to flower and grow even though I give them no love and attention.  Mother nature seems to give them all they need.  They are old fashioned roses and have an amazing scent.

This year I want to make things to beautify my home.  I want to try and do all of the things I have put on the back burner for so long to do "öne day".  One thing EDS has taught me is to do what I can TODAY.  So I have begun painting my BIG collected pile of wooden pieces for my home.  The first cab off the rank was this sweet little stool.

I used duck egg blue chalk paint underneath and covered it with a crisp white

I sanded it back slightly to reveal some blue peeking through the white

Added a vintage flower spray decal and then waxed it for protection.  I just love it.

I have ordered a new brand of chalk paint and am just waiting for it to arrive.  It is Australian made so I am hoping it is a good product as I love to support local companies.  So today I will choose another item for a make over.  I wonder what it will be ?  Stay tuned.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Getting back to basics

The past few weeks have been a wonderful time of reflection and questioning the purpose of a lot of the things we do.  Planning our future and trying to live with the hand EDS has dealt me.

Part of the problem is not knowing what I may or may not be capable of doing each day.  For someone who was an event management planner for over 9 years it takes a lot of getting used to when you just have to take each day as it comes and STOP planning.

But I am trying really hard ......

So each day I ask myself what I think I can achieve.  Some days it's nothing more than a little reading from bed, maybe a wander around the garden and sometimes I can spend an hour or two throughout the day painting, baking or even just trying to help hubby with a few household chores.  But whatever I achieve it is most important to me that I enjoy it .....  Like blogging ....  Hopefully I can maintain some momentum with my blog throughout 2017.

Along with reading comes inspiration ........ always for me.  I often read blogs from bed and come across a lot of recipes that I want to try but have to wait until the energy levels improve.  I found the web site of Bake Play Smile.  Oh My Gosh be warned ........  Some of the food over there is amazing !

This is my version of their Apple and Raspberry Crumble cake.  It is delicious.  We have been gently heating up a piece and serving it with sticky cream.  Divine !

And another recipe I couldn't resist was this Salted Caramel Cheesecake Slice.  It tastes amazing and will be a firm family favourite around here and very high on the family request list.

Over the past few years I have collected quite a lot of wooden items including small furniture pieces with the intention of bringing them back to life with a coat of chalk paint.  I have been able to spend a little time doing that and have finished this lovely drawer and mirror set.

And this sweet little wooden drawer set.  I am finding it so enjoyable.

One of the things that has happened to me as a consequence of this condition is that I find myself spending much more time at home.  It's for lots of reasons but mainly because the energy and pain that is caused by an outing is just not worth it.  Instead after a rest of a morning and afternoon I can have an hour or two of doing something enjoyable.  Thank goodness for online shopping and home delivery of groceries.

I'm off now for my afternoon rest and to do a little reading.  I hope you are having a wonderful day.
