A new year has arrived and with it a promise of a new path for me.
I begin my University journey next Monday and the past few weeks have been spent preparing the household and our life to enable this to happen.
It is very exciting as well as quite scary. It's been 30 years since I have studied and having an income less than the tax I used to pay per week is frightening.
BUT we are up for the challenge. Frugal is my new go to word and I have been spending lots of time in the kitchen and vegetable garden in an effort to harvest this year's crop to squirrel away for the winter.
I have also been spending some time working on sewing projects.
My designing will be limited to a few small items per year as I do not want or need any added pressure whilst studying. I figure I am going to get one shot at this and I want to give it 110%. BUT sewing is important to me and it is who I am - My life is not complete without it so finally I have given myself permission to work on whatever takes my fancy. I am SO enjoying it.
This of course will be limited to using what I already have as money is very tight.
Luckily for me that includes many UFO's and lots of NEW projects not even started yet. It will also give me the chance to start small "new" projects to help use up some of my extensive stash.
Like this gorgeous "Free" pattern by Anne Sutton of Bunny Hill Designs. Anne will be releasing a Christmas Heart Ornament every month on the 5th for a whole year. I'll have 12 gorgeous brand new ornaments by Christmas next year and all from my scrap box. I've made a start on the first one.
I've been setting aside some time since Christmas to take the dogs for some exciting walks. Ruby and Toby love going for a walk with their mumma so we hop into the car and drive to some "doggy" walking areas near our home.
This included a lovely trip to the beach last week.
So that's it from me for today. I promise to try and get back here to blog a little more often than last year.
I have a trip to the dentist today but before I go I'm going to spend some time making some gorgeous kitchen towels from a tutorial over on my friend Jenny's blog. The finished kitchen towels will be the start of my 2015 handcrafted gift box. No gift will be given from me this year that is not handmade so what a perfect addition to begin my stash of handcrafted treasures.

It was so good to hear from you Fee, and I congratulate you for choosing the path you have chosen to travel. Thankfully you have a large stash, as do most of us quilters, and will be able to pick and choose from your existing fabric. All the very best as you start this adventure. I too went back to study at the age of 44 and did a teaching degree. It was a wonderful experience challenging the brain and making friends with fellow students of all ages. Enjoy the process as you achieve your dream. All the best.
